Resource Furniture partnered with interior designer Fernando Ferraz to breathe new life into this renovated Chelsea apartment.
In an age when neutral palettes reign supreme – as evidenced by the countless Pinterest boards filled with all-white kitchens, white bedding, and endless expanses of white subway tile – it can feel risky experimenting with bold colors. If you are feeling color-curious, don’t fret; rather than make your space feel chaotic or busy, the right choice of hues and patterns can bring a splash of life and individuality to your home like nothing else can.
A perfect example comes from interior designer Fernando Ferraz of Fernando Ferraz Interiors, who partnered with Resource Furniture to breathe personality into a Chelsea apartment renovation with a unique mix of color, pattern, textures and shine.
In the living room, Fernando choose the Oslo sofa wall bed in a bold, saturated blue lacquer finish, with matching surrounding cabinetry, full-height shelving units and an integrated writing desk. White shelves, a white desk, and a white Oslo sofa help to break up the large blocks of blue with pops of accent color, preventing the saturated colors from overpowering the space.
Adjacent to the Oslo, Fernando integrated ConcreteWall 09 — an ultra-high-res, concrete-textured wallcovering — to add a layer of depth and visual interest to the room. The organic pattern and tactile texture of the ConcreteWall wallcovering breaks up the smoothness of the Oslo’s lacquer finish and brings an industrial vibe to this otherwise sleek, contemporary space.
Room accessories like velvet ottomans, faux fur throws, and a clear acrylic coffee table add even more texture and color variety, without diverging from the room’s palette and disrupting its sense of cohesion. Retaining cohesion was especially important in this space — the Oslo sofa wall bed transforms this living area into a bedroom, so maintaining a sense of uniformity and visual calm was a necessity.
Finally, gold hardware, and a graphic wall hanging accessory add a spot of eye-catching metallic shine — the perfect finishing touch.
When choosing new furnishings and finishes, consider interesting ways you can integrate color, pattern, texture, and shine; this well-known rule of the fashion world applies just as well to the realm of interior design. Fortunately, every Resource Furniture piece is available in a wide array of fabrics and finishes, so you can find the perfect palette to suit your tastes!
