How Peti Lau Brought Bold Flexibility to an NYC Apartment
Featuring Resource Furniture’s Multifunctional Solutions
When NYC-based interior designer Peti Lau was tasked with designing a multifunctional home for a private Manhattan client, she knew the project would require more than visual impact—it had to work. Every inch of the compact space needed to serve multiple purposes while staying true to the client’s sophisticated taste and Peti’s expressive, globally inspired aesthetic.
To make it happen, Peti turned to Resource Furniture.
Inside the Project: Elevating Bold Functionality
Peti Lau is known for her distinctive design language—what she calls AristoFreak: a redefinition of boldness that elevates romance and boheme with a taste for all things eclectic and cheeky. That sensibility shines throughout this New York City home, where color, texture, and function all play starring roles.
Her design challenge? Create a space that adapts effortlessly between daily life, entertaining, and rest—without ever feeling generic or utilitarian. She found the perfect partners in Resource Furniture’s Italian-crafted, transformable pieces.
Featured in the Project
Flex Modular Sofa
At the heart of the living area is the Flex Modular Sofa, a fully customizable system with mobile backrests that easily shifts between a sectional, chaise, tête-à-tête, or impromptu guest bed. Upholstered in rich Italian chenille fabric, it anchors the room while its movable cushions provide breathtaking panoramic views of Central Park.
Custom Flip‑Down Desk
In the guest room, Peti designed a custom flip‑down desk built into a wall unit—ideal for the client’s hybrid work lifestyle. Featuring built-in lighting, USB ports, power outlets, and concealed storage, this piece virtually disappears when not in use, keeping the visual focus on the curated interiors and the stunning views.
Oslo Sofa by CLEI
To add sleeping accommodations without sacrificing floor space, Peti chose the Oslo Sofa by CLEI—a queen-size wall bed hidden behind a tailored bench-style sofa. Its patented mechanism allows the bed to open while keeping the shelf level and cushions in place, preserving the apartment’s calm, composed layout. Hidden storage for linens underneath the seat and clean lines add function and elegance.
Why Resource Furniture?
This project required a partner who could deliver space-saving solutions without compromising on design. Peti chose Resource Furniture for:
