The West Coast Design Calendar: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle This Fall

West Coast design events take center stage this fall in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. Across the three cities, exhibitions and conversations offer a look at the ideas shaping architecture and interiors, and the distinct design communities behind them.

Resource Furniture has showrooms in all three cities, with connections to their local design communities through the designers we work with, the projects we contribute to, and, in some cases, direct participation in this fall’s programming.

Los Angeles: Design Across Architecture, Interiors and Culture

Design West Hollywood returns September 29 through October 1, with programming spanning interiors, architecture, art, hospitality, entertainment, culture, and fashion across the West Hollywood Design District. The mix reflects the nature of Los Angeles design, where architecture and interiors are closely connected to the city’s broader creative culture.

The West Hollywood Design District is home to more than 250 showrooms, galleries, and boutiques, anchored by the Pacific Design Center. Resource Furniture’s Los Angeles showroom is located nearby on North Crescent Heights Boulevard, placing it within one of the city’s primary design destinations.

Resource’s connection to Southern California design also extends beyond Los Angeles. For the Palm Springs home of Matt Sorum and Ace Harper, interior designer Ryan Saghian incorporated Resource Furniture into a residence shaped by the couple’s personal style and its desert setting. The multifunctional furniture maintains a clean footprint in the room while providing comfortable, flexible sleeping arrangements when needed, allowing Saghian’s larger design vision to remain the focus.

Later in the season, Resource Furniture will participate directly in another major Los Angeles design event. WestEdge Design Fair returns to Barker Hangar in Santa Monica from October 29 through 31, bringing more than 150 exhibitors together around contemporary furnishings and design.

Resource Furniture will exhibit with Humanscale Living in an installation focused on hybrid living. Humanscale will present the Diffrient Lounge Chair, eFloat Quattro, and Freedom Headrest alongside Resource Furniture’s Ella & Louis wall bed with integrated sofa. Together, the installation considers how one room can support working, living, and accommodating guests without dedicating permanent space to each function.

San Francisco: Collecting, Craftsmanship and Considered Interiors

The San Francisco Fall Show returns to Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture from October 15 through 18. Founded in 1982, the show brings together more than 40 dealers in fine and decorative arts, with an emphasis on collecting, craftsmanship, design, and cultural heritage.

On October 16, interior designer Young Huh will join Madeline Stuart and Nathan Turner for A Sense of Place, A Life Collected, a conversation about homes shaped by their surroundings, inhabitants, and objects collected over time.

Resource has worked with Huh on two residences near its New York City showroom, including projects in the Hudson Valley and on Riverside Drive. In a Hudson Valley home office layered with hand-painted wallpaper, antiques, and a red-and-white palette, a Circe Desk wall bed allows the room to accommodate overnight guests. In a Riverside Drive residence in New York City, an Adam Tavolo system introduces another form of flexibility for a guest room.

In both homes, added function does not come at the expense of the larger interior, leaving room for collected objects, artwork, wallpaper, color, and architectural details to define the space.

Closer to San Francisco, Maydan Architects incorporated Resource Furniture into a Pacific Heights residence, bringing flexibility into a contemporary architectural setting. In the Maydan residence, Resource’s multifunctional furniture works within a modern interior defined by clean lines and a predominantly white palette, adding flexibility without disrupting the home’s streamlined aesthetic.

The Resource Furniture San Francisco showroom is located in the San Francisco Design District, providing a year-round presence within the Bay Area design community.

Seattle: Inside the Design Community

Fall Design Day takes place October 1 at Seattle Design Center, bringing the Pacific Northwest design community together around interiors, materials, craftsmanship, and the built environment. This year’s program includes keynote speaker Alfredo Paredes, whose work spans interiors, architecture, and product design.

The Resource Furniture Seattle showroom is located inside Seattle Design Center, and Resource will participate in Fall Design Day with its own showroom presentation.

Designed to Adapt: The Science of Creating Responsive Spaces, presented by Resource Furniture and ABL Home Design, will explore how adaptive design can give people greater choice in how they experience and use their spaces.

During the 30-minute presentation, Resource will demonstrate how multifunctional furniture can allow a room to respond to different needs without adding square footage. Brynn Freal, founder of ABL Home Design, will bring principles of neuroaesthetics, biophilic design, and salutogenic design into the conversation, looking at how the built environment can support agency, well-being, and changing needs over time.

The discussion moves beyond fitting multiple functions into a room to consider a broader question: what choices does a space give the person using it? It is an approach that connects flexibility with Seattle’s larger conversations around materiality, craftsmanship, and the experience of the built environment.

Three Cities, Three Versions of West Coast Design

These West Coast design events also show how differently each city approaches design.

Los Angeles brings architecture and interiors together with art, fashion, and entertainment. San Francisco emphasizes collecting and craftsmanship, while Seattle focuses on materials, the built environment, and its close-knit design community.

For Resource Furniture, adaptability can work within each of those perspectives. Rather than defining the aesthetic of an interior, multifunctional furniture can be planned around its architecture, materials, and the way the people living there need the space to work.

Make Resource Furniture Part of Your West Coast Design Itinerary

For anyone attending West Coast design events this fall, Resource Furniture has a showroom in each of these three design communities.

In Los Angeles, visit the Resource showroom while exploring West Hollywood and its surrounding showrooms and galleries. In San Francisco, the Resource showroom in the Design District can be part of a visit during the San Francisco Fall Show. In Seattle, Resource is located directly inside Seattle Design Center, where Fall Design Day takes place.

A showroom visit gives you the opportunity to see materials and finishes in person, operate the furniture, and understand how different configurations could work within your own space. Sales and Design Consultants can review floor plans, dimensions, and how you want a room to function to help identify the right approach.

Resource also has a New York City showroom for projects on the East Coast or spanning both coasts. Explore our showrooms or schedule a design consultation to start planning your space.
