A Soft Loft for Flexible Living: Lowe Delgado’s Live/Work Studio
Redefining the Loft
In Seattle, interior designer and parent Lowe Delgado has redefined the meaning of home. Their 1,200-square-foot live/work loft is at once studio, sanctuary, and gathering place—a space that shifts in response to light, season, and family rhythms.
The loft’s structure is industrial—20-foot ceilings, concrete, drywall, and steel. Yet Lowe has layered it with softness: linen drapery suspended from ceiling to floor, a felted wool light fixture, and even a wall covered in the weathered pages of a century-old book, arranged like wooden shingles. The result is what Lowe calls a “soft loft”—an environment that balances industrial edges with tactile warmth.
Living in Motion
For Lowe, home is never static. Curtains divide the loft into four distinct zones, yet they can be drawn aside to restore the openness of the space. Every major piece of furniture is on casters or dollies, allowing the layout to transform again and again. Lowe likens the process to painting:
“When I first moved in, I thought I needed to take up oil painting so it would feel like a ‘real’ art studio. But over time, I realized the act of designing and constantly evolving the space was the art. Instead of paint and canvas, my materials are textiles, furniture, lighting, and finishes — and the space itself is always in progress, like a three-dimensional oil painting.”
Even Lowe’s workspace adapts to the seasons. In summer, the desk shifts to a cooler corner near the kitchen. In winter, it moves beneath expansive windows to maximize daylight.
Anchored by the Kali Duo
In a home that thrives on flexibility, one piece provides a sense of stability: the Kali Duo bunk bed from Resource Furniture. Chosen for its ability to merge elegance with utility, the bunk is the rare fixed element in Lowe’s otherwise modular environment.
The bunk bed serves many lives within one home. During summers, when Lowe’s two daughters live full-time in the loft, the bed remains open—its twin bunks doubling as sleeping quarters, reading nooks, and cozy retreats. Built-in reading lights have become beloved features for two avid young readers.
At times, the lower bunk folds away to create a loft-like hangout with bean bags and toys. When the children are away, the Kali Duo disappears into the wall, restoring openness for client visits and creative work.
Flexibility as a Family Tradition
The bunk bed continues a family tradition of treating home as a stage for imagination. When the children were younger, weekends meant rearranging the space for slumber parties and forts. That same spirit of play remains alive today—only now, the Kali Duo offers a more intentional and refined way to create room for both play and rest.
Luxury in Flexibility
Lowe’s loft demonstrates how multifunctional design can create expansive possibility—even within compact square footage. The Kali Duo does more than conserve space; it transforms the way the family inhabits their home.
At Resource Furniture, we believe luxury is not defined by size, but by impact, adaptability, and beauty. Lowe Delgado’s soft loft proves that with the right pieces, even an open industrial shell can become a home of intimacy, flexibility, and joy.
