When Every Inch Counts: A Multifunctional Retreat in Cobble Hill

A Space That Balances Sentiment and Style

In collaboration with Shakespeare Gordon Studio, Isabella Patrick Interiors brought warmth and personality to a Cobble Hill townhouse renovation that recently appeared in Rue Magazine. The home’s combined home office and guest room blends form and function in a way that feels effortless yet deeply personal. This cozy sanctuary features the Penelope Desk wall bed, custom finished in Pesca lacquer.

“This might be my favorite space,” says designer Isabella Patrick. “It has moody deep plum colored wallpaper by Wolf Gordon, a rug by Cicil Home, and a custom Murphy bed by Resource Furniture in a peachy tone that perfectly picks up on the subtle stripe in the wallpaper.”

The Design Vision

Known for her elegant, livable interiors, Isabella approached this room with a clear vision: create a multifunctional retreat that could transition seamlessly from a cozy home office to a comfortable guest room.

The rich deep plum wallpaper by Wolf Gordon sets the mood — sophisticated yet inviting — while the peach-lacquered wall bed from Resource Furniture introduces warmth and a modern contrast. The Penelope's integrated desk allows the room to serve double duty as a serene home office by day and a tranquil bedroom by night.

Each design detail feels intentional: the vintage-style leather armchair, the woven stool with a deep red cushion, the brass task lamp, and a soft rug by Cicil Home ground the palette in comfort and craft.

Hidden Function, Effortless Form

When folded up, the Penelope Desk presents as a clean, custom-built wall panel with a floating desk — ideal for writing, reading, or quiet reflection. When lowered, the bed transforms the space into a minimalist guest suite, complete with a plush mattress and ample clearance for easy use.

This seamless transformation speaks to the very essence of multifunctional design — maximizing square footage without sacrificing aesthetics. In rooms where every inch matters, and pieces like the Penelope Desk Wall Bed make that flexibility possible with elegance.
